If any of you even remotely enjoy country music, definitely check this out!

A few years ago I was introduced to Russell’s music by my friend Blake. His sister Nicole (who I’m also really good friends with) went to school with him in Nashville and Blake happened to have one of his demos. I instantly fell in love with the first song I heard, “Driving in the Rain.” About a year later I went to visit their school and I stayed with Nicole in Nashville. I was surprised when Russ came with Nicole to pick me up at the airport. I had spent hours with this dude’s myspace open just listening to his music. It was sort of like a celebrity was picking me up. Over the next few days I spent a lot of time with Russell. We all hung out at Nicole’s apartment, went to a variety show, went to church (where he and Nicole lead worship…it was beautiful), went out to eat a bunch, went “trick-or-treating,” and to a Paramore concert at the legendary Ryman Auditorium. I was even at Russell’s apartment when he raised the key to “Driving in the Rain,” the song that made me fall in love with his music. That version eventually ended up on his EP. Long story short (or maybe that was long), while I wouldn’t consider Russ and I to be great friends by any means, he’s a fantastic guy and I’m so lucky that I can say I actually got to spend a few days just hanging out with him.

This guy is the future of country music. He released his first EP, Die to Live, earlier this year and every song is perfect. Today he released this song, “That’s My Girl.” I absolutely love it. So please give it a listen and, if you like what you hear, check him out on iTunes!
